Nintendo delays The Legend of Zelda movie to May 2027

The movie version of The Legend of Zelda, jointly produced by Nintendo and Sony Pictures, has been pushed back from its initial March 2027 release to May 2027. This shift is due to the fact that the production progress was not as far advanced as anticipated, as stated by Shigeru Miyamoto, the media lead at Nintendo and the creator of Mario. The delay was necessitated because the project required more time to complete.

This week, Nintendo shared a postponement notice about the upcoming Zelda film from Shigeru Miyamoto through their official social media platforms. According to Miyamoto and Nintendo, the reason for the delay is related to the production process.

Miyamoto here! Due to certain production factors, we’ve decided to shift the release date for the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Instead of its earlier announcement, you can now expect it on May 7, 2027. This means a slight delay from our initial timing, but rest assured, we’re using this extra time to ensure the film lives up to your expectations and exceeds them as much as possible!
