Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound brings Ryu Hayabusa back to modern gaming with style

As a long-time Ninja Gaiden enthusiast with decades of combat experience under my belt (both virtual and actual), I can confidently say that the announcement of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound has sent a thrill down my spine sharper than any Dragon’s Claw. After years of mastering the intricate dance of destruction in the 3D realm, returning to the side-scrolling roots of this classic series feels like slipping back into a familiar pair of katana-sharpening sandals.

A fresh installment of the Ninja Gaiden series, reminiscent of the side-scrolling brawling style from the NES originals, is on its way. Having ventured into 3D action games for some time, DotEmu is revisiting the roots of the franchise with Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound.

Crafted by the team behind Blasphemous (The Game Kitchen) and distributed by DotEmu, this upcoming title serves as an impressive revival of the franchise’s signature style.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound announced

At The Game Awards 2024, it was officially announced that Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will let gamers once again take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa in an exciting side-scrolling journey. This action-packed game will be available for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In the game’s account, my journey takes me across the ocean to America, fulfilling my father’s last wish. Yet, while I’m away, a catastrophic event occurs – the boundary between our world and the demon realm collapses, releasing a horrifying horde onto the sacred Hayabusa Village. In my absence, the village now faces an unparalleled danger. Stepping up to the plate is Kenji Mozu, a young ninja from our very own village, who bravely takes on this new threat!

Boasting stunning hand-drawn 2D graphics and a fast-paced side-scrolling battle system, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound promises to be more than just an eye-catching title. By blending the nerve-wracking level layouts of its 2D games with the adrenaline-pumping action of its 3D counterparts, this installment marks a daring evolution for the hardcore gaming series.
