Nik Bentel Studio’s Loopy Chair Is Crafted From a Continuous Fiberglass Tube

Summary

  • Nik Bentel Studio has unveiled the Loopy Chair, a playful design crafted from a singular tube of fiberglass, also offered in metal and upholstered variants.
  • Offered in various high-gloss colors, the design was originally inspired by urban bike racks found across major cities.

At the ICFF 2025 event, the creative design studio Nik Bentel Studio has revealed their updated Loopy Chair. Originally a prototype from 2019, this new version comes in a wide array of primary hues and different materials. The chair is shaped like a looping fiberglass tube, providing functionality while retaining the carefree spirit of a child’s scribble, making it resemble an “animated drawing suspended in space.

In an otherworldly setting, the designers crafted diminutive replicas of the chair in various color schemes for its unveiling: white, black, blue, green, red, and yellow. This design takes inspiration from the wavy tubular structure of city bike racks and transforms it into a furniture piece suitable for “living surreal.” In its full size, the slimmer design from 2019 is reimagined with a reinforced frame, stronger materials, and adaptations tailored to diverse functions. The traditional high-gloss fiberglass model is complemented by an outdoor version made of powder-coated steel and an indoor one wrapped in plush cloth-covered foam.

In the mid-1900s, fiberglass became widely used for manufacturing furniture on an industrial scale, with companies like Herman Miller, Knoll, Steelcase, and Vitra frequently employing it. Appreciated for its robust durability and design versatility, this synthetic material takes center stage in the Loopy Chair’s construction. The chair’s flowing design echoes the tubular steel chairs made famous by Marcel Breuer and the Bauhaus movement during the early 20th century, a significant industrial design trend of the era.

For an asking price of $3000 USD, potential buyers are invited to reach out for details regarding the unique Loopy Chair at the authentic Nik Bentel Studio webpage. The gallery displayed above offers additional images showcasing the distinctive features of the Loopy Chair.
