Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have released a trailer for the forthcoming psychological thriller titled “The Surfer,” which features Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage. This movie is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
In the movie, a man goes back to the peaceful beach of his youth to surf alongside his boy. However, his wish to catch waves is hindered by a band of locals who insist on the rule, ‘reside here, don’t surf here.’ Feeling embarrassed and enraged, the man finds himself embroiled in a dispute that escalates as the scorching summer heat intensifies, eventually pushing him to his limit.

As a surf enthusiast, I found myself immersed in a tale where I, or rather Cage, become the central figure. A conflict arises between me and a band of locals over my right to ride the waves at the beach. Accompanying me on this journey are Julian McMahon as Scally, Finn Little as the Kid, Miranda Tapsell as the Photographer, Nicholas Cassim as the Bum, Alexander Bertrand as Pitbull, Justin Rosniak as the Cop, Rahel Romahn as the Estate Agent, and Charlotte Maggi as Jenny.
The movie “The Surfer” was helmed by director Lorcan Finnegan and penned by Thomas Martin. This production is backed by Cage, Leonora Darby, James Harris, Robert Connolly, James Grandison, Brunella Coccighlia, and Nathan Klingher. Before its public debut, the film made its first appearance at the Cannes Film Festival last year. As of now, it has a Tomatometer score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 31 reviews.
