Nexus Mods ownership is changing hands as Dark0ne steps down

Nexus Mods, well-known modding community, has a new leader. Its founder, Robin “Dark0ne” Scott, recently declared that he’s relinquishing his role, but he will remain connected to some extent. This change follows 24 years of Scott managing the platform.

On June 16, 2025, Robin Scott shared a detailed account on Nexus Mods about the journey of Dark0ne’s ownership. This journey spans from its inception as a personal project in 2001 to its current status as a platform hosting over 200,000 mods for more than 10,000 games.

Based on Scott’s account, managing the site has become quite demanding. He mentions that the job’s stress is a consistent cause of anxiety and health problems related to stress. He came to understand that he was experiencing burnout, which eventually affected his team and Nexus Mods overall.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for quite some time now, and finally, Scott seems to have found a new owner who truly understands the modding community, much like I do myself.

Scott acknowledges that there won’t be significant alterations noticeable to the end user. However, major modifications will occur behind the scenes for long-term platform stability while preserving its core values. Additionally, users may encounter more interaction with Foledinho (Victor) and Rapsak (Marinus), as Scott hints at these individuals becoming more visible in the front-facing roles.

To wrap up, Scott emphasizes that he won’t vanish but rather continue to be present in a subtle manner throughout these revered spaces. He reinforces that this is beneficial for the overall well-being of the platform.

For over two decades, Nexus Mods has been a cornerstone in the gaming community, providing players with an array of valuable mods ranging from minor adjustments and fixes to substantial content expansions. Last year, the platform had to prohibit Palworld mods featuring Pokemon content due to intellectual property issues. Dealing with such IP concerns is something the recent ownership will have to tackle.
