Nexon and Blizzard reportedly team-up for new Starcraft game alongside Overwatch Mobile

It’s said that a fresh Starcraft game is allegedly being worked on by Blizzard Entertainment and Nexon, alongside the supposed mobile version of Overwatch. Notably known for creating free-to-play games such as The Finals and mobile titles, Nexon is collaborating with the studio to aid in the development of these upcoming projects.

According to reports from MTN and VGC, it has been announced that Nexon will be releasing the global version of the upcoming Overwatch Mobile games. As part of this agreement, Nexon, based in South Korea, will also contribute to the development of a new Starcraft game, which holds a special place in the hearts of many Koreans due to its popularity and enduring appeal.

New Starcraft in the works

As per the report, Blizzard has been making offers since the end of last year to significant Korean game companies. These offers involve granting the rights to develop content based on the “Starcraft” franchise, along with the Korean and Japanese service rights for the mobile version of “Overwatch”. This is all being proposed as a single package deal.

It’s possible that the latest Starcraft game won’t follow the RTS (Real-Time Strategy) format like its earlier versions, instead leaning towards an “open-world shooter” genre, as suggested by job postings at Blizzard and rumors about the upcoming title pointing to it being a “shooter” game.

Furthermore, the report suggests that internally at Blizzard, the supposed Overwatch Mobile version is being called “Overwatch 3”. Just as Overwatch 2 marked the beginning of the game’s shift to a free-to-play model, the upcoming mobile adaptation could bring significant changes across all versions of the hero shooter.

Apart from Starcraft and Overwatch, Blizzard is also carrying on with the Diablo series development. The 2025 plan for the series was met with a lukewarm reception, but it’s said that internally, they have a 10-year roadmap extending until 2035 to back

It seems that Blizzard is aiming for a more rapid publication pace compared to the previous ten years. In recent gaming eras, several Blizzard projects have been shelved, including the much-awaited Starcraft: Ghost. Fingers crossed that this upcoming game in the series will indeed see the light of day.
