NewJeans Announce Hiatus Amidst Record Label Drama

The well-known K-Pop band, previously known as NewJeans but now called NJZ, has taken a break due to ongoing label issues. During their recent concert in Hong Kong, they made the announcement live on stage, stating that they would temporarily halt all group activities until the situation is resolved.

The collective made up of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein declared that their upcoming show in Hong Kong would mark a temporary end to their performances. Due to an ongoing legal battle with their record label, ADOR, all group-related activities are currently on hold. There’s no word yet on when they will return to the stage again. ADOR, which is under the umbrella of HYBE Corporation, manages prominent K-Pop acts such as BTS, Le Sserafim, and Enhypen. Last week, Seoul courts sided with ADOR in a management dispute involving NewJeans. In response, ADOR declared, “Now that our status as NewJeans’ exclusive agency has been legally confirmed, we are fully dedicated to supporting the artists moving forward.” At the time of the court decision, NJZ released a statement saying, “Hello, this is NJZ. Today, the court issued a preliminary injunction order. We, NJZ, acknowledge the court’s ruling. However, we feel that the decision did not fully consider the fact that the members’ trust in ADOR has been irreparably damaged.

On stage, Hanni addressed the crowd in English, “I must admit, it’s tough for us to say this, but it seems like our upcoming performances may need to take a brief hiatus due to the court’s verdict. Out of respect for their decision, we’ve chosen to suspend all activities temporarily. Making this choice wasn’t simple, but we believe it’s necessary at present.” Danni continued, “From day one, we knew that our journey wouldn’t be an easy one—but despite the court’s ruling and this entire process, we felt compelled to express ourselves to uphold the values we hold dear. We don’t regret making that choice because standing for our dignity, rights, and deeply cherished beliefs is something we feel was crucial to do, and a conviction we won’t abandon.” A hearing has been scheduled for April 3rd.

Since their debut in 2022, the group has become well-known with chart-topping songs like “Super Shy,” “Hype Boy,” and “OMG.” They introduced a fresh track called “Pit Stop” during their performance in Hong Kong.
