New World of Warcraft feature copies most popular user-made UI addon

World of Warcraft, a widely loved massively multiplayer online game, is introducing a new feature inspired by a highly favored user-created interface addon.

New World of Warcraft feature copies WeakAuras UI addon

According to PCGamer, it appears that World of Warcraft is adopting a well-liked user interface addon similar to WeakAuras, known as the Cooldown Manager. This feature has been introduced in the latest World of Warcraft patch, version 11.1.5, as reported by WoWHead.

The recently introduced Cooldown Supervisor adopts certain aspects of top-tier cooldown monitoring previously seen in WeakAuras, according to WoWHead’s observations. Here are the four key functionalities that Blizzard’s Cooldown Manager encompasses:

[Another option] The new Cooldown Manager borrows certain popular cooldown tracking elements from WeakAuras, as reported by WoWHead. Here are the four primary areas that Blizzard’s Cooldown Manager focuses on:

  • Essential Cooldowns
    • In this area you will find most of your class cooldowns. For example, as a Shadow Priest, this section tracks both short rotational cooldowns like Mind Blast and Shadow Word: Death and longer cooldowns like Dark Ascension and Power Infusion.
  • Utility Cooldowns
    • Similar to the Essential Cooldowns area, this area deals with utility spells, tracking both short utility spells like Power Word: Shield and Angelic Feather, and longer ones like Dispersion and  Desperate Prayer.
  • Tracked Buffs
    • This section tracks procs your spec has that can change your rotation. In the example, the tracked procs are Deathspeaker, Shadowy Insight, and Unfurling Darkness.
  • Tracked Bars
    • The final section is different from the other tree, offering bars to closely track the duration of impactful cooldowns. In the example, it tracks Shadowfiend and Entropic Rift.

Although the Blizzard’s Cooldown Manager is useful, it falls short in terms of personalization when compared to WeakAuras. Customization options for Blizzard’s Cooldown Manager are limited to what’s already provided.

  • Orientation – Horizontal or Vertical
  • Number of Columns – 1 to 20
  • Icon Direction – Left or Right
  • Icon Size – 50% to 200%
  • Icon Padding – 2 to 10
  • Opacity – 50% to 100%
  • Visibility – Always Visible, In Combat, Hidden
  • Show Timer Toggle
  • (Tracked Buffs Only) Hide When Inactive Toggle
  • (Tracked Bars Only) Display Mode – Icon and Name, Icon Only, Name Only

Regarding World of Warcraft updates, Blizzard emphasized that the game’s enduring popularity isn’t simply down to its history, but rather its ability to adapt and change over time.
