New Valve MOBA Deadlock close to reaching 90k peak player count mere days after reveal

As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt, I must say I’m thoroughly impressed by Deadlock‘s meteoric rise in popularity. With a gaming career that’s seen me through everything from Pong to VR, I’ve witnessed countless games come and go, but rarely has one captured the hearts of gamers so quickly as this MOBA/shooter hybrid.

Despite being an invite-only release, Deadlock – Valve’s blend of MOBA and shooter genres – has almost hit 90,000 concurrent players just a few days following its public unveiling, generating significant excitement among gamers.

According to Steam’s list of popular games, Deadlock is currently ranked at number 11 and has approximately 76,610 active players, with a peak of 89,203. Given that you’ve been following the buzz around the latest shoot ’em up, it won’t come as a shock since it had amassed more than 20,000 players even before its recent release – an event that took place just this week. It is worth noting that prior to this launch, the development team requested players to sign a controversial Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) within the game itself.

Not only is the game appealing, but it’s also convenient that developers are distributing invitation codes in large quantities. On the official Deadlock subreddit, there’s even a dedicated thread for granting access to those who haven’t got it yet. Similarly, a Twitch content creator named minihunden, with fewer than 100 followers initially, has amassed over 300 new followers since hosting livestreams where he shares invitation codes after each match.

It’s important to note that Deadlock, being Valve’s second venture into the MOBA/multiplayer realm, seems poised to mirror the popularity of games like Counter-Strike 2 and DotA 2. However, as it is currently in early access without a confirmed release date, we can only speculate if it will meet the high expectations set by its initial buzz. So far, though, it appears to be moving in the right direction and could potentially become another prominent multiplayer titan.
