New Tamil theatrical releases this week: Dhanush directorial NEEK, Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon, and more

2025 has been a splendid year for me as a dedicated follower of the Tamil film industry so far, with films such as Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi, Manikandan’s Kudumbasthan, and Ravi Mohan’s Kadhalikka Neramillai leaving quite an impact at the box office. From where I stand, it seems like the industry is gearing up to keep this streak going.

Here’s a list of Tamil films that are all set to hit the silver screens this week!

1. Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK)

The movie titled Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, often abbreviated as NEEK, is definitely one of the most eagerly awaited films this year. It represents Dhanush’s third directorial project following the 2017 film Pa. Paandi and the upcoming 2024 release, Raayan. The movie is said to be a heartwarming blend of comedy and romance, primarily revolving around romantic relationships within Generation Z.

2. Dragon

  • Release Date: February 21st
  • Cast: Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, George Maryan, KS Ravikumar

The upcoming movie titled “Dragon,” directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, is a blend of comedy and drama in its coming-of-age storyline. This film represents the third directorial project for Marimuthu, with financing provided by AGS Entertainments. The narrative revolves around the central character grappling with issues post a breakup, leading to his decision to abandon education and venture into the realm of financial deceit.

3. Badava

  • Release Date: 21st February (tentative)
  • Cast: Soori, Devadarshini Chetan, Senthil, Vimal

The movie titled “Badava,” directed by KV Nandha, is being eagerly anticipated as a light-hearted comedy flick, with Soori taking the main role. This film represents Soori’s comeback to the comedy genre following his portrayal of a police constable in the critically acclaimed movie “Viduthalai 2” by Vetrimaaran on an international level. The release date was initially set for February 14th, but it has been delayed due to unspecified reasons.

4. Ramam Raghavam

  • Release Date: 21st February
  • Cast: Samuthirakani, Dhanraj, Harish Uthaman, Sunil, Mokksha, Racha Ravi

The movie “Ramam Raghavam” is a production that’s both in Telugu and Tamil, directed by Dhanraj who also portrays a significant role within the film. This intriguing tale is categorized as a family drama, focusing on a son’s betrayal of his father, a man known for his integrity as a government official. The son’s actions stem from unbridled greed. However, as he sets out to bring about his father’s ruin, his life undergoes an unexpected change, compelling him to reconsider his moral compass.
