On the Steam Deck, you’ll find numerous exceptional games to enjoy. At present, Amazon offers some new free games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3 featuring D&D characters, and an unconventional experience that garnered popularity despite its developer labeling it a “failed project.” Furthermore, a fresh Steam free game has recently been launched. This newly available free-to-play title serves as a prequel to a Steam Deck verified epic and boasts a “very positive” rating from over 7,000 users following more than 7,000 reviews.
New Steam free game is prequel to Steam Deck verified epic
On April 12th, a fresh, complimentary title named “Lunacid: Tears of the Moon” was unveiled on Steam. Currently, it boasts a highly favorable “very positive” feedback score following 225 appraisals.
The upcoming game serves as a prelude to the 2023 release known as Lunacid. Lunacid boasts a highly favorable rating following more than 7,000 reviews and has cultivated a dedicated fanbase. Unlike its free prequel, Lunacid is not complimentary; it retails for £11.79. An enticing soundtrack from the original game can be purchased separately for an additional £8.50.
In 2000, both Lunacid and its predecessor Tears of the Moon were crafted utilizing the Sword of Moonlight King’s Field development tool. For those unaware, this is the same tool that brought to life the treasured King’s Field series, which saw numerous installments over time.
Similar to Luncaid, its predecessor Tears of the Moon, is a “first-person dungeon explorer,” where players venture through different dungeons in search of potent weapons and magic to delay the prophesied apocalypse.
Unlike Lunacid, which has been officially verified for the Steam Deck, the status of Tears of the Moon remains undetermined, likely due to its recent release. Nevertheless, based on a few reviews from the game’s Steam page, it appears to function well, but there seem to be problems with certain scenes not loading correctly.
On Reddit, there’s been plenty of admiration for Lunacid, with some users commenting that it captures the perfect blend of strangeness that playing Dark Souls for the first time did. Although Tears of the Moon isn’t officially verified by SD, it’s still a game worth exploring given its free status and numerous positive reviews. It also seems like an excellent throwback for those seeking a dose of nostalgia.
In other updates for the Steam Deck, it’s been confirmed that a new Sonic game is now officially compatible, with pre-registration rewards still up for grabs. Additionally, the highly-acclaimed game of 2025 thus far, titled “2025’s Best Game,” has also been confirmed as playable on this handheld device.
