As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the galaxy far, far away, this latest announcement about a new Star Wars trilogy has me feeling like I just found the hidden Jedi Temple on Dagobah. The prospect of Simon Kinberg, with his extensive experience in the X-Men franchise and Star Wars universe, developing a brand-new saga is nothing short of exhilarating.
A new trilogy of Star Wars movies has been announced.
Lucasfilm has finalized an agreement with Simon Kinberg for the creation of a completely new set of Star Wars films, encompassing a trilogy. Kinberg is tasked with penning all three movies and producing them in collaboration with Kathleen Kennedy from Lucasfilm.
What do we know about the new Star Wars trilogy that is now in development?
According to Deadline, Matt Kinberg’s films could potentially be new additions to the Star Wars saga known as the Skywalker Saga; however, it’s important to note that these plans are not finalized yet.
According to an article on Deadline, it’s said that episodes 10-12 of “The Skywalker Saga” will follow, as these were the final episodes originally planned by George Lucas in his 1977 film. However, sources argue that this won’t continue the same storyline but instead start a new saga. These upcoming projects, including those with James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi, and Donald Glover, are in addition to ongoing “Star Wars” ventures. As always, Lucasfilm and Disney declined to comment on the matter.

As a passionate Star Wars enthusiast, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating on the creation of Star Wars Rebels, a series that captivated fans for four seasons until its conclusion in 2018. This journey was shared with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, fellow creators who breathed life into this iconic universe. I also had the opportunity to serve as a consultant on Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams in 2015, and received a special “thanks” credit for my contributions to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016.
Simon Kinberg is primarily recognized for his contributions to the X-Men series. He penned the screenplay for X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014, and X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, and also served as producer for the latter two films. Moreover, he produced X-Men: First Class from 2011, Deadpool in 2016, Logan in 2017, Deadpool 2 in 2018, and The New Mutants in 2020.
2019 marked the first time Simon Kinberg took the helm as a feature film director, with the release of Dark Phoenix. Previously, he contributed to the 2015 version of Fantastic Four, and served as an executive producer for Deadpool and Wolverine projects.
