The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 has been formally unveiled, showcasing its specifications and fresh games, making it an enticing new gadget for devoted fans. Rumored to boast power equivalent to a “mid-tier PC” in a compact design, the console could potentially achieve another massive success, despite the expensive cost of its games. (This assessment doesn’t account for potential price increases due to the U.S. tariff situation.)
Based on the latest directive, PlayStation has circulated a poll among both PS4 and PS5 users regarding Nintendo’s upcoming portable console. Given rumors of a potential new PlayStation handheld, Sony is seeking feedback from gamers about what they find attractive in the hypothetical Nintendo Switch 2.
PlayStation scouts out Switch 2 thoughts
As a gaming enthusiast, I recently received a questionnaire from MP1st, on behalf of PlayStation, inquiring about my interest in acquiring the latest Nintendo console. The survey also asked if my perspective towards this console has shifted after the recent Direct presentation, what specific features draw me to it, and other related questions.
As a dedicated Nintendo gamer, I’ve found an intriguing aspect of the recent survey that dives into their pre-order strategy for the upcoming console. It seems Nintendo is offering “priority access” to gamers who have not only subscribed to their Nintendo Switch Online service for at least a year and paid in full, but also managed to rack up at least 50 hours of gameplay on it, by April 2nd, 2024.
Without any official announcements from Sony about new hardware yet, there’s been a persistent issue where consoles, controllers, and other products are snatched up by resellers (scalpers) before regular consumers have a chance to purchase them. This practice not only harms Sony financially, as they depend on sales from paying customers who buy games, but it also negatively impacts the gaming community as a whole since scalping benefits only the resellers.
Indeed, it’s not certain if Sony (PlayStation) is planning to launch new hardware in the near future. It’d be great if they could implement some of Nintendo’s current pre-order strategies, allowing customers to purchase items at their suggested retail prices instead of dealing with scalpers and inflated costs.
To delve deeper into Switch 2 insights, explore its GameChat functionality that resembles Discord, albeit with fewer unwanted messages. Also, take a look at its DLSS and ray-tracing capabilities, regarding which Nintendo remains quite secretive.
