Information about the release date for the upcoming James Bond film directed by Denis Villeneuve, the successor to the current series, has recently surfaced.
What is the latest new James Bond movie update?
As per a recent update from Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, it appears that Amazon MGM Studios is looking to recruit a collaborative writer who will team up with director Denis Villeneuve for an upcoming film project. This collaboration is expected to occur while Villeneuve is engaged in the production of Dune: Messiah, and once he completes his work on that project, he will contribute to the script development as the casting process commences.
Regarding the release date, the report hints at the film potentially being finished by 2027; however, given Denis Villeneuve’s busy workload and the upcoming third Dune movie slated for a late 2026 or early 2027 premiere, it appears more probable that the film will be released in 2028.
Additionally, Sneider pointed out that some reports indicated that people were surprised by the selection of Villeneuve as the director, given that he had been among multiple directors who interviewed with Amazon MGM. It was claimed that he was perceived as the least accessible and costliest choice among the candidates.
After an unexpected announcement earlier this year, the James Bond franchise has been passed to Amazon MGM Studios. This change comes as Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, long-time producers of the series, have decided to step away from their roles, giving creative control of the franchise to Amazon MGM Studios. The deal involves the formation of a new joint venture between Amazon MGM Studios and the duo, which will hold the rights to the intellectual property related to the Bond franchise.
In essence, the ownership of the Bond series remains shared among the three parties; however, Amazon MGM Studios has been given creative control, a role previously held by Broccoli and Wilson. Previously, both Wilson and Broccoli were recognized for their guardianship over the franchise. In response to this change, Wilson stated that he will be devoting more time to artistic pursuits and philanthropic endeavors, while Broccoli mentioned her intention to focus on other projects.
