As a lifelong gamer who grew up with Atari classics like Pong and Asteroids, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement at the announcement of the Atari Gamestation Go. The design reminds me of my very first handheld gaming device, the Atari Lynx, which I carried around everywhere as a kid, playing games like Xybots and Star Raiders on the go.
The idea of being able to revisit those old favorites in a modern, portable format is simply irresistible. The addition of the keypad and Trak-Ball brings back memories of countless hours spent mastering games using those unique input methods.
While I’m not holding my breath for any groundbreaking new titles, I’m confident that Atari will deliver on their promise of classic ports in a fresh, portable way. The fact that they were testing the Gamestation Go at CES 2024 only adds to the anticipation.
The one thing I’d love to see is a modern take on Tempest, one of my all-time favorite Atari games. And if they could include a hidden Easter egg with a playable version of E.T., that would be the cherry on top!
All in all, the Gamestation Go has me eagerly awaiting CES 2025 and the chance to get my hands on this retro-inspired handheld console. Bring on the games, Atari! Just don’t forget to include a pause button – I still need to beat Tempest without taking a break!

Before the CES 2025 event, an official unveiling of a novel handheld gaming device has taken place – it’s not the successor to the Nintendo Switch. Instead, the Atari Gamestation Go is all about reviving nostalgic gaming experiences and blending them with a vibrant, modern era.

Although the trailer for the announcement is brief, it certainly piques our curiosity: It bears a resemblance to the Nintendo Switch, showcasing triggers and four front-facing buttons, yet it also introduces elements reminiscent of the past.
It features a keypad and a Trackball, two vintage gaming accessories. This allows you to enjoy timeless games as they were played historically.
Comeback of Atari classics?
It wasn’t entirely unexpected, given that an early prototype of the Gamestation Go had been showcased for testing at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, known back then as the Gamestation Portable.
To date, it remains uncertain which types of games will be offered for this console, however, considering its retro aesthetic, it’s likely that Atari will primarily concentrate on re-releases of classic games in a modern, portable format.
As a gaming enthusiast who has been playing video games for over two decades, I must say that I am quite intrigued by the Gamestation Go. Growing up, I remember the excitement of playing Atari games on my trusty old handheld console, and the thought of having a modern version brings back fond memories. If given the chance to play on Atari’s new handheld console, I would love to try out some classic titles like Pong, Asteroids, and Centipede, but also check out any new games they may have in store. The potential for revisiting my childhood favorites while experiencing something fresh is truly appealing. I am eagerly awaiting its release!
