New Goonies & Gremlins Movies in the Works at Warner Bros.

New Goonies and Gremlins movies are seemingly in the works at Warner Bros.

As per a recent update from Deadline, Warner Bros. has plans to revitalize the classic ’80s series, The Goonies and Gremlins, potentially within the near future.

According to the article, anticipation grows for upcoming projects such as “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” “Practical Magic 2,” “DC’s Clayface” and “Supergirl,” Drew Goddard’s script for a new “Matrix,” a fresh take on “Gremlins” from Christopher Columbus, and a “Goonies” revival.

As of now, I haven’t got any specific updates regarding the Goonies project. It’s still up in the air whether they’ll bring Columbus on board or not. Stay tuned for more info!

What Goonies and Gremlins sequels have there already been?

Back in 1985, I found myself immersed in an unforgettable journey called The Goonies, directed by the one and only Richard Donner. This movie was a dream come true with a screenplay penned by Chris Columbus, inspired by a story from none other than Steven Spielberg himself. The adventure unfolded with an all-star cast that included Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, Martha Plimpton, Kerri Green, and many others. It’s still a classic for me!

Several efforts and whispers about new installments or reboots of The Goonies have been made, but none of these plans have ever taken flight.

1984 saw the release of the comedy-horror movie “Gremlins”. This film was steered by director Joe Dante, with a screenplay penned by Columbus. The star-studded cast includes Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Hoyt Axton, Polly Holliday, and Frances Lee McCain. However, it’s Howie Mandel who lends his voice to the character of Gizmo.

In 1990, a sequel to Gremlins titled Gremlins 2: The New Batch was released, with Joe Dante once again taking the director’s chair. Charles S. Haas penned the screenplay for this installment, and original actors Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, and Jerry Mandel returned to their roles.

In May 2023, Max debuted an animated series titled “Gremlins,” serving as a prequel to the 1984 movie. Dante plays a key role behind the scenes as a consulting producer. This popular show has completed two seasons: the first season is known as “Gremlins: Secrets of the Hogwai,” while the second season goes by “Gremlins: The Wild Batch.
