New Dead By Daylight update nerfs infamous killer again, making them F-tier

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours invested in Dead by Daylight, I can’t help but feel disheartened upon witnessing yet another debilitating nerf to one of my favorite killers – the Skull Merchant. I’ve been through the ups and downs with this character, standing by her side when she was first introduced, and now watching her slip further into obscurity.

In simpler terms, the action game Dead by Daylight has just launched its 8.4.0 update. This new chapter includes The Houndmaster and Taurie Cain, along with various updates for both killers and perks. However, some players are disappointed as this update seems to have “toned down” a well-known killer in Dead by Daylight, rendering them virtually ineffective and placing them in the lowest tier.

Besides unveiling Chapter 34 yesterday, BeHaviour held a live broadcast where they shared their plans for December 2024, including the announcement of an exciting partnership with Junji Ito, along with the release date for this collaboration. It’s confirmed that we can expect the Junji Ito crossover and skins, but there’s been a hint from a leaker about a potential licensed chapter for next year, which could be BeHaviour’s most ambitious project yet.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement for the upcoming month and the start of the new year, but for now, it’s all about update 8.4.0. However, the buzz among players is anything but positive as yet another nerf has hit the Skull Merchant, leaving many of us feeling a bit deflated.

New Dead By Daylight breaks Skull Merchant’s stealth

After the launch of the Dead By Daylight update 8.4.0, gamers have once more voiced concerns about a change affecting the Skull Merchant. Previously perceived as one of the weakest killers in DBD, her current state has been described as unbalanced.

In the gameplay video posted by Reddit user DadousPL, it appears that the cooldown time for his Undetectable ability is set to just two seconds instead of the standard eight seconds.

In the responses, numerous users express their annoyance about BeHaviour still negatively impacting the Skull Merchant. Some use the well-known “they’re already dead” meme from The Simpsons, while others make comments like “even Demogorgon is now a more effective stealth killer than SM,” and “As long as this issue persists, she will remain a poorly performing killer.

It’s uncertain whether the issue with the Skull Merchant is a hidden balance adjustment not announced in the 8.4.0 patch notes, or if it’s just a glitch that needs to be resolved. Regardless of the cause, this situation isn’t beneficial for her since she was already one of the least effective and least favored killers in November 2024.
