As a seasoned Dead By Daylight fanatic with countless hours under my belt, I can’t help but feel like a kid on Christmas Eve as we approach the arrival of Chapter 34! The early release of the PTB is a delightful surprise that’s made even sweeter by the prospect of diving into the new killer’s perks and powers before my console-bound brethren.
In a matter of weeks, the last Dead By Daylight chapter for 2024 is scheduled to drop on all platforms. Traditionally, PC gamers get an early taste of the fresh content before console users, thanks to Behaviour’s public-test build. Here’s where you can explore The Houndmaster, the latest addition to DBD’s killers, and learn how to join the Chapter 34 PTB right away.
Initially, there was speculation that Chapter 34 PTB would become available on November 12th. However, it turned out to be released earlier, on November 7th instead. Despite the reason behind this shift, BeHaviour Interactive disclosed the update 8.4.0 patch notes which encompassed all of the killer updates for November as well as adjustments to the HUD for survivors.
It’s beneficial that the beta has been released early since this allows fans to play it immediately instead of having to wait until next week when 2v8 returns. The latest Dead By Daylight killer is known as The Houndmaster, and players on Steam can already test out his unique perks by participating in the Chapter 34 Public Test Build.
Dead By Daylight The Houndmaster killer perks
Below are the perks for the Dead By Daylight Chapter 34 killer, The Houndmaster:
Perks:
All-Shaking Thunder
- After you fall from a height, your lunge attack distance is increased by 75/75/75% for 8/12/16 seconds.
- This perk has a 5/5/5-second cooldown.
Scourge Hook: Jagged Compass
- At the start of the trial, up to 4 random hooks are changed into scourge hooks. You see their auras in white.
- When a Survivor is unhooked from a non-scourge hook, it becomes a scourge hook. When you hook a Survivor on a Scourge Hook, the aura of the generator with the most progress is revealed in yellow for 6/8/10 seconds.
No Quarter
- When a Survivor reaches 75/75/75% of a self-heal, they are faced with continuous skill checks.
- If one of these skill checks is missed or the heal is interrupted, the Survivor becomes broken for 20/25/30 seconds.
Initially, rumors pointed towards the mysterious figure being known as The Hellion, but after careful consideration, I firmly believe The Houndmaster is a much more fitting title for this character. Despite the name being incorrect in the leaks, they were spot-on about the presence of a loyal companion, and the leaked concept art accurately reflected the final version as well.
For the public test version, these benefits might be as described, but Behaviour Interactive may make minor adjustments when releasing the final product.
DBD The Houndmaster killer special powers
In addition to perks, below are the special powers and abilities for The Houndmaster:
Special Ability: Chase
With a quick chase, the dog is sent off at top speed when you press the Chase Command. Pressing the Power button again adjusts the chase direction, causing the dog to change course. Once the dog captures a Survivor, it initiates a Grab. At this point, the Survivor will be impeded and pulled towards The Houndmaster. If unhindered, the Survivor can either stun the dog or wait for another Survivor to rescue them. Grabs that don’t result in Injury will only leave the Survivor temporarily incapacitated. Grab duration is shorter for Survivors with the Endurance status effect. (Paraphrased from your original text)
Special Ability: Search
The Search Command sends the dog to a target location, creating a Search Path. It has its own lullaby and, as it moves, its Houndsense radius rises over distance traveled. Survivors who enter the radius are affected by Houndsense and revealed by Killer Instinct. If The Houndmaster follows the dog’s Search Path, she gains increased movement speed over time. Leaving the Search Path ends the bonus movement speed.
Special Effect: Houndsense
Survivors who are healthy and have been affected by Houndsense experience severe wounds when they get hurt. When injured survivors under the influence of Houndsense are pushed towards the brink of death, they emit louder cries of agony and bleed more profusely.
Arguably the best aspect of this original killer is that you can pet the dog!
How to play the DBD Chapter 34 PTB
To enjoy the DBD Chapter 34 PTB, it’s essential that you have Dead By Daylight purchased through Steam. Here’s a simple guide for playing:
- Right-click Dead By Daylight in your Steam library
- Select “Properties”
- Head into “Betas”, then select Public Test Build from the list
According to the Year 9 plan, Dead By Daylight Chapter 34 was initially scheduled for release in December. But now, Behaviour Interactive has officially announced that it will be launched across all platforms on November 28th instead.
It’s not entirely clear why the launch date was moved up from December. One possibility is that it might have conflicted with the return of 2v8 if it had been released on November 12th, although this is only a guess.
