As a die-hard fan of the 9-1-1 franchise, I must say that the news of yet another spin-off is music to my ears! Having binge-watched every episode from both the original series and Lone Star, I can’t help but feel like I’m part of an ever-expanding family of first responders.
With the cancellation of 9-1-1: Lone Star, it seems another chapter may be coming to an end soon. Excitingly, Ryan Murphy, one of the franchise co-creators, has confirmed that a new spin-off of the original 9-1-1 series is under development.
As a dedicated fan, I’d like to share some insights about this captivating procedural drama that originated from the creative minds of Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear. It initially graced our screens on Fox in 2018 before transitioning to ABC during its seventh season. Later, a spin-off titled Lone Star was born in 2020 and ran for four seasons, with the fifth season having just been released.
Unfortunately, the fifth season of Lone Star will be its final season.
What did Ryan Murphy say about the planned 9-1-1 expansion?
Tim Minear and I have been penning a brand-new series, which we’re eager to see air on television starting this coming autumn, as Murphy conveyed to Variety.
Regarding the termination of “Lone Star,” Murphy expressed his regret, stating that while everyone cherished the series, the finances simply didn’t add up. Being a Disney production on Fox, it was an incongruous pairing that ultimately proved unsustainable. Nevertheless, they had a good run with it. Now, they are preparing to debut a fresh show in an unnamed location, but one that promises excitement. Additionally, “9-1-1” transitioned to ABC and quickly became the most popular program on Thursday evenings. Clearly, there’s a demand for such content, so we’re planning to offer them another series that I personally admire.
Other details about the new spin-off have yet to be announced.
