As a hardcore fan of The Lincoln Lawyer, I can’t help but feel like I’ve been on a rollercoaster ride these past few years. One moment we’re engrossed in the gripping narrative, and the next, we’re left hanging, waiting for the next installment. But if Neve Campbell’s recent revelation is any indication, it seems that our wait for season 4 might not be as long as we thought!
It’s been almost a year since the second season of “The Lincoln Lawyer” wrapped up, and fans are eagerly awaiting the third season. Yet, before we can even add the third season to our watch lists, there are early indications about season 4 – yes, I said FOUR! – although it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
During an interview with Press Pass LA in June 2024, it appears that Neve Campbell shared some exciting news about The Lincoln Lawyer’s upcoming fourth season. Known for her role in Scream, Campbell hinted that she has officially agreed to appear in all episodes of the fourth season. This announcement follows the surprising turn of events in season 2, where her character Maggie moved from Los Angeles to take a new job in San Diego.
Prior to the start of the second season, Campbell’s role on The Lincoln Lawyer was scaled back from a main character to a recurring one. This change was likely due to another series she was slated to lead on ABC, although that series didn’t materialize. Despite this, her return as a full-time cast member for season 3 was unlikely because Maggie is not present in the Michael Connelly book that served as the basis for the third season, The Gods of Guilt. (Additional scheduling factors might have also played a role.)
Fortunately, despite Maggie’s absence from the original content, the higher-ups managed to incorporate a brief role for Campbell in season 3. In fact, Campbell shared with Press Pass LA that she will feature in not one but two episodes of the upcoming season. Take a look at the video above to catch Campbell’s insights on the future of The Lincoln Lawyer and her hints about Mickey and Maggie!
In the previous season, it appeared as if Mickey and Maggie, who were occasionally friendly exes, were about to reignite their relationship. However, those potential reunions cooled off swiftly when Maggie moved unexpectedly to San Diego. As Campbell suggested, they are now separated, both emotionally and geographically, but they remain co-parents of their daughter Hayley.
“Campbell revealed to Press Pass LA that a split happened and it unfolds in season 3. Now that she’s returning to the show, we can expect more developments. We’re excited for more of Mickey and Maggie! Despite Campbell’s busy schedule due to Scream 7, she is fully committed to season 4 if Netflix gives the go-ahead.”
In the sixth book of Mickey Haller by Connelly titled “The Law of Innocence”, Maggie is anticipated to play a significant role. This expanded part could potentially serve as the basis for season 4, but only if Maggie chooses not to return to the series. However, since she’s confirmed to be back, the writers can now proceed enthusiastically and follow through with their original four-season plan that they had prepared from the start.
It’s clear that the series could extend past Season 4, as showrunner Ted Humphrey hasn’t specified which book a potential Season 4 might be based on yet. Given that they skipped Book 3 and moved on to Books 4 and 5, it seems likely that Book 6 will be the next adaptation. With Season 3 set for release later this year, it’s thrilling to speculate about Season 4 and Maggie’s confirmed return.
