Netflix’s UNTOLD: What Was Steve McNair’s Cause of Death?

As a dedicated gamer and follower of true crime stories, I’ve come across my fair share of intriguing cases that have left me questioning the world around me. The Steve McNair case, however, stands out as one of the most baffling and tragic ones I’ve encountered.

Netflix’s “UNTOLD” is set to debut Volume 4, focusing on the controversial death of former NFL star Steve McNair. On July 4, 2009, McNair, aged 36, was found dead in an apparent murder-suicide involving his girlfriend, Jenni Kazemi. Kazemi allegedly took her own life after fatally shooting McNair. The upcoming episode of the docuseries, premiering on August 20, 2024, will explore the intriguing question “Who Killed Steve McNair?” It will further examine alternative theories that investigators have considered throughout their investigation.

Steve McNair’s cause of death: How did the NFL star die?

Based on The Tennessean’s report, Steve McNair, a former NFL star, was found dead in his condominium on Lea Avenue in Nashville with four self-inflicted gunshot wounds. His then-girlfriend, Sahel “Jenni” Kazemi, is believed to have shot him before taking her own life at the age of 20. McNair was 36 years old and married at the time of his death. Kazemi worked as a waitress.

Based on the evidence found at the crime scene, authorities have reconstructed a sequence of events leading to the murder-suicide. It is suspected that Jenni Kazemi was the first to pull the trigger, shooting Steve McNair while he was apparently seated on the sofa and presumably asleep. The initial bullet pierced McNair’s left temple. Subsequently, Kazemi fired two more bullets into McNair’s chest and one last shot to his right temple.

Following the fatal shooting of Steve McNair, Jenni Kazemi remained seated next to him on the sofa and took her own life. She aimed the gun towards her right temple and pulled the trigger once, falling onto McNair’s lap and releasing the weapon. The gun eventually slipped from her grasp and she tumbled to the floor. McNair’s friend Wayne Neely discovered the scene and contacted his bodyguard Robert Gaddy before ultimately notifying the authorities.

According to investigators, McNair and Kazemi’s deaths were determined to be a murder-suicide. It is believed that Kazemi, driven by jealousy and rage, took the life of McNair. However, alternative theories propose that an outside party was responsible for the double murders. These theories suggest that the killer(s) subsequently arranged the crime scene to appear as a murder-suicide. (NBC News reports similarly.)

I’m excitedly looking forward to August 20th when Netflix’s UNTOLD series sheds light on the mysterious deaths of Steve McNair and Jenni Kazemi. As a fan, I can’t wait to delve deeper into this intriguing story.
