Netflix’s The Platform 2 Rakes in Large Viewership Despite Negative Reviews

Netflix’s The Platform 2 Rakes in Large Viewership Despite Negative Reviews

As a die-hard fan of horror films, I have to admit that my love for The Platform series knows no bounds, even when it comes to its polarizing reception from critics. Having witnessed the original film’s unexpected success on Netflix and the subsequent announcement of The Platform 2, I eagerly awaited the sequel with bated breath.

Following its debut on Netflix in 2020, The Platform saw unprecedented success with large viewer turnout. This Spanish horror film became one of the standout summer hits for the popular streaming service. Despite receiving criticism for its confusing plotline, its impressive digital performance convinced Netflix to start working on a sequel, known as The Platform 2.

Four years following the premiere of its predecessor on Netflix, The Platform 2 is now available and receiving less favorable reviews than the initial movie. However, the subpar critical reception hasn’t deterred viewers from flocking to watch Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s directorial effort, as it steadily climbs the Netflix viewership rankings.

The Platform 2 tops Netflix viewership charts despite critical backlash

Despite receiving unfavorable critiques across the board, The Platform 2 surprisingly held the top spot as Netflix’s most-viewed film last week.

Last weekend, it’s said that the horror sequel raked in approximately 32.6 million viewing hours, as per data from Netflix. The report, compiled by Netflix themselves, included viewership figures from September 30 to October 6, according to ComicBook.com. Despite its release on October 4, The Platform 2 outperformed all other content on Netflix during that weekend. In second place was the newly released action-comedy Trouble, which garnered more than 16 million viewing hours last week.

The movie “The Platform 2” has been very popular with viewers, but it’s receiving lackluster responses from both critics and the public. At this moment, its critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes stands at just 42%. Unfortunately, the film seems to be faring even worse among the general audience, who have given it a dismal 26% score on the same platform.

Given the incredible success of the franchise, it’s looking probable that a third installment is in development. Additionally, the director of The Platform 2 has offered an optimistic update about extending the movie series. However, The Platform 3 doesn’t have an official confirmation or release date from its makers yet.
