As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for true crime stories and a soft spot for compelling narratives, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” on Netflix. Having binge-watched the chilling account of Jeffrey Dahmer’s life in the first installment, I am eager to delve into another gripping tale of real-life monsters.
Netflix has at last revealed when they will unveil “Monsters: The Tale of Lyle and Erik Menendez as Told by Ryan Murphy, featuring Javier Bardem“, marking the actor’s initial project with the renowned director.
Title Translation: Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, or Monsters Season 2, is a sequel to the 2022 series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story featuring Evan Peters as the main character, the infamous serial killer. In this new installment, it will reenact another real-life crime story, delving into the case of two brothers who were found guilty for killing their own parents.
The series will arrive on the streamer on Thursday, September 19, at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.
In Season 2 of Monsters, viewers are invited to ponder the question, “Who truly are the monstrous ones?” As suggested by the official synopsis, the narrative will delve into the story of Lyle and Erik, who were imprisoned in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menendez. While the legal system portrayed them as seeking to claim their family fortune, the brothers maintain that their violent acts were a response to a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse they endured at the hands of their parents. They continue to assert this defense, serving life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Who stars in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story?
Bardem stars José Menendez, with Chloë Sevigny starring as Kitty Menendez. Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch star as Lyle and Eric, the real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996.
As a longtime fan of theatre and film, I have had the pleasure of watching numerous performances by some truly talented actors and actresses throughout my years. Among the many memorable roles I’ve seen, the cast of this upcoming production stands out as particularly impressive. From Nathan Lane, who has captivated audiences on Broadway for decades, to Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman, Dallas Roberts, Paul Adelstein, Jason Butler Harner, Enrique Murciano, Michael Gladis, Drew Powell, Charlie Hall, Gil Ozeri, Jeff Perry, Tessa Auberjonois, Tanner Stine, Larry Clarke, Jade Pettyjohn, and Marlene Forte – each one brings something unique to the table.
The show is overseen by directors Ian Brennan, Max Winkler, Paris Barclay, Michael Uppendahl, and Carl Franklin. The writing team includes Murphy, David McMillan, Todd Kubrak, Ian Brennan, and Reilly Smith. Alongside Bardem, the series is executive produced by Murphy, Brennan, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, McMillan, Louise Shore, and Franklin.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story hits Netflix on September 19.
