As a seasoned gamer and Netflix enthusiast with over two decades of binge-watching under my belt, let me tell you, the weekend of August 2, 2024, is shaping up to be an absolute goldmine for us streaming junkies! With the Olympics in full swing and Simone Biles’ documentary series, “Simone Biles Rising,” gracing our screens, it’s a perfect time to channel my inner gymnast (read: couch potato) and get cozy.
At last, we’ve reached the weekend, and not just any weekend, but the start of August! With each new month comes a flood of fresh content on Netflix, making it hard to figure out what’s been added to the service and what you might want to add to your viewing queue.
On the very first day of August, Netflix unleashed an incredible array of fresh content that had me absolutely thrilled! Among the new releases, I was particularly excited about diving into season 1 of “Fire Country,” not to mention the unique takes on Godzilla with “Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color.” For Dr. Seuss fans like myself, there were two fantastic movies waiting to be watched. Horror enthusiasts will rejoice over multiple Chucky movies and a whole lot more spine-tingling content. To top it all off, they also added “White Chicks,” “The Spectacular Now,” and numerous other choices that made for an exceptional binge-watching weekend!
In the same vein as watching Simone Biles triumph at the Olympics, why not skip the latest releases and instead, catch up on the initial episodes of Simone’s documentary series titled “Simone Biles Rising“. Other popular shows such as “Unsolved Mysteries” and “Prison Break” are also currently among the top 10 new releases.
Check out these Netflix gems this upcoming weekend! A comedic gem from Netflix that hasn’t received enough attention is back, perfect for family movie night there’s an action-packed film competing, and a suspenseful murder mystery that’s already gaining popularity. Here are some recommendations for your Netflix viewing on August 2nd, 2024!
Unstable season 2
Father-son duo Rob Lowe and John Owen Lowe are returning with a fresh season of “Unbalanced“, an underappreciated, offbeat comedy that’s definitely worth more attention. In this series, Rob portrays a billionaire biotech CEO who reluctantly welcomes his estranged son into the family business.
Despite some people possibly deciding to skip the show for various reasons, do not miss it! It offers so much more than simply being a metaphorical father-son tale. Indeed, it is that, but there’s also an impressive cast that transforms the series into a smoothly running office comedy. Make sure to catch all 16 episodes of Unstable this weekend!
Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie
25 years on, the long-awaited limelight finally shines upon Sandy Cheeks in the fresh Netflix original movie titled Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie. In this adventure, our squirrel and sponge duo join forces, not in Bikini Bottom as usual, but in Texas. The objective remains the same – to safeguard their beloved underwater community. Regardless of your familiarity with the plot, this film promises to be an ideal choice for a memorable family movie night.
Jack Reacher
On August 1, both “Jack Reacher” and its sequel “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” were added to Netflix. The 2016 sequel quickly climbed to the top of the daily chart of most popular films. If you’re in need of an action movie fix, why not enjoy a two-part marathon of Tom Cruise action movies while they’re still available on Netflix?
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
In a similar vein as Jack Reacher’s fame surge following its debut on Netflix, the title “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” swiftly soared to the top position in the top 10 rankings after just one day of availability. The series, adapted from the renowned book series and featuring actress Emma Myers known for her role as Wednesday, immediately seized the No. 1 spot.
The teen detective series focuses on a high school student investigating an old, enigmatic murder case and attempting to find the true culprit. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder spans six episodes, making it perfect for an engrossing weekend binge-watch. Don’t forget to catch up on our recaps!
