Netflix picks up Vince Vaughn comedy movie Nonnas for 2025 release

As a gamer with a soft spot for comedies, I can hardly contain my excitement for Vince Vaughn‘s Netflix debut, titled “Nonnas”. With a career spanning many hilarious flicks and a knack for playing lovable yet relatable characters, Vaughn is the perfect fit for this heartwarming comedy.

Could you figure out which famous comedian will soon grace the screens on Netflix? That would be Vince Vaughn, a name synonymous with many hilarious films! And here’s an exciting bit – the upcoming Netflix movie he’ll star in is also a comedy titled “Nonnas“. We’re going to share all the details about it shortly

As a gaming enthusiast who also enjoys a good laugh, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news. In a fierce auction, Netflix emerged victorious, securing global rights to an upcoming comedy flick. Rumor has it they shelled out over $20 million for the privilege. Originally slated for the Toronto International Film Festival, this hilarious production will now be premiering exclusively on Netflix in 2025 due to their acquisition of the rights. Can’t wait!

The film “Nonnas” is inspired by real-life events. It was penned by Liz Maccie, known for “A Loud House Christmas” and “Siren”, and helmed by Stephen Chbosky, who has directed films such as “Wonder”, “Beauty and the Beast”, and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. Gigi Pritzker and Rachel Shane produce for Madison Wells, while Jack Turner produces for Matador Content. The executive producers include Vaughn, Jay Peterson, and Todd Lubin from Matador Content, Scott Budnick and Ameet Shukla from 1Community, and Amanda Morgan Palmer and Stacy Calabrese from Madison Wells

In this movie, Vaughn plays the role of Joe, a bachelor stuck in an unfulfilling occupation. He shares a special bond with his mother, who delights him with her exceptional culinary skills. Tragically, his life is disrupted when his beloved mother passes away

Stricken with grief, Joe attempts to find solace and remember his late mother by establishing an Italian restaurant of his own. He enlists the help of a group of Italian grandmothers to assist him in managing the restaurant, forming a bond that makes them feel like surrogate mothers to him

I’m thrilled to be part of this stellar cast alongside Vaughn! Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, and Brenda Vaccaro bring their unique charm as our Italian grandmothers or surrogate moms. The talented Linda Cardellini, Drea De Matteo, Joe Manganiello, Michael Rispoli, and Campbell Scott are also part of the ensemble. What a fantastic lineup!

Producer Gigi Pritzker shares with Deadline her joy that the film Nonnas has found a platform at Netflix. Alongside her, executive producer Scott Budnick also voices his enthusiasm about the movie’s acquisition by Netflix and provides details on its plot. He explains that Nonnas is a tribute to family – both the ones we are born into and those we build ourselves
