Netflix is adding 11 new movies and shows this week (July 21, 2024)

As a dedicated Netflix enthusiast and someone who has weathered countless lockdowns and quarantines over the past few years, I can’t help but feel a sense of solidarity with the characters in “The Decameron.” The idea of escaping from the harsh realities of a pandemic by retreating to a secluded villa with a group of friends might sound appealing at first, but as someone who has spent more than my fair share of time cooped up at home, I can’t help but feel a twinge of unease at the thought. But hey, if you’re in the mood for some dark historical drama, then “The Decameron” might just be the ticket.

As a busy working mom, I can’t believe how quickly July has flown by! It feels like just yesterday that we were welcoming the new month with its promise of sunshine and relaxation. But alas, the back-to-school season is creeping up on us, and the thought of waking up early and packing lunches again fills me with a mix of dread and nostalgia.

I’m excited to share that starting on July 25, 2024, I’ll be able to explore “The Decameron” series on Netflix! This show transports us back to 1348 during the Black Death, where a group of wealthy nobles escape the misery and despair by retreating to a secluded villa. But as we all know too well, what begins as an enjoyable distraction soon takes a sinister turn. Some might argue that a pandemic-themed series is premature given our current global situation. However, it seems that denial and avoidance are common responses during crises, so perhaps this show serves as a reminder of the importance of facing our realities head-on.

The Dragon Prince and Elite season 8 coming to Netflix this week

Coming next is the sixth season of “The Dragon Prince“! Its premiere on Netflix is scheduled for July 26, Friday. In this new installment, the team has successfully imprisoned Aaravos. However, they are left pondering over what to do with him and how to prevent his allies from attempting a rescue. With Claudia’s determination to free Aaravos in order to complete her resurrection, the team faces a formidable challenge.

If you’re in the mood for more teen drama, then mark your calendars! The beloved series “Elite” returns for its eighth and final season on July 26. Get ready for all the usual excess, romance, and yes, murder. Omar and Nadia are rekindling their relationship, with Omar determined to make amends with Joel. However, as graduation approaches for the students of Las Encinas, longstanding friendships and new romances will be pushed to their limits when a classmate meets an untimely end.
