Netflix Explains Why It Won’t Do Streaming Bundles With Max, Disney+

As a dedicated Netflix subscriber and someone who values convenience and cost-effectiveness, I can’t help but feel disappointed by the company’s decision not to bundle with streaming giants like Disney+ or Max.

In a letter to shareholders accompanying the release of its Q2 financial reports on Thursday, the company explained why it has chosen not to collaborate with restrictive streaming services such as Max and Disney+, despite recently striking a deal with Comcast for Peacock and Apple TV+ access.

Why won’t Netflix do certain streaming bundles?

Since the inception of streaming, we have valued collaborations with device manufacturers and pay TV and mobile service providers. These alliances make it convenient for users to access and subscribe to Netflix. In return, our partners gain from increased sales of devices compatible with Netflix, expanded customer base, improved retention rates, and the chance to offer additional data or content packages as upsells.

Comcast broadband and TV subscribers can now enjoy a bundle deal with Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+ at a discounted price following the recent announcement.

In their letter, the streamer explained that focusing only on platforms such as Max and Disney+ for deals isn’t feasible for them since Netflix is widely recognized as the primary choice for viewers.

The streamer explained, “We haven’t packaged Netflix together with other streaming services like Disney+ or Max because Netflix stands out as a top choice for entertainment due to its extensive and diverse selection and exceptional user experience. This has led to high industry penetration, engagement, and retention rates for us. Bundling directly with other streamers would limit the advantages for Netflix.”
