NEEK Review: After SJ Suryah and Mari Selvaraj, director Arun Matheswaran also applauds Dhanush’s directorial

Without a shadow of a doubt, Dhanush stands out as one of the most versatile directors in the country right now. Known for his role in Raayan, he’s preparing for the premiere of his third directorial project, titled Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, often referred to as NEEK. This movie, a blend of romance and comedy set in the formative years, is scheduled to be released on February 21st.

As the days count down to the movie’s premiere, there’s no denying that the anticipation is sky-high! Just recently, I was fortunate enough to catch a sneak peek of NEEK at a special screening with Dhanush. To my delight, SJ Suryah, who saw it too, couldn’t help but sing its praises on social media.

In a recent post on social media, film director Arun Matheswaran (who collaborated with Dhanush in the 2024 movie Captain Miller) expressed his thoughts after watching the upcoming film titled NEEK. He was astonished by the authentic representation of young love and friendship displayed in the movie. Furthermore, he praised the cast and crew, mentioning that audiences who have experienced life’s highs and lows will likely connect with this film.

Apart from SJ Suryah and Arun Matheswaran, the movie has also received high praises from Mari Selvaraj, a well-known director in Kollywood, who directed Dhanush’s 2021 film “Karnan”. He too commended Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam.

In the previously mentioned details, NEEK is described as an upcoming romantic-comedy that focuses on young characters, featuring actors like Priya Prakash Warrier, Mathew Thomas, Anikha Surendran, and others in significant roles. Notably, Dhanush will not only direct but also write and produce the movie, collaborating with his father Kasthuri Raja. Leon Britto handled the cinematography for the project, while Prasanna GK was responsible for editing. The music for the film is being created by GV Prakash Kumar.

Regarding Dhanush’s career in filmmaking, it’s important to note that his upcoming movie “NEEK” isn’t his only directorial project for the year. In addition, his fourth directorial effort, titled “Idly Kadai,” is scheduled to premiere on April 10th this very year.

Beyond this, it’s worth mentioning that the actor will share screen time with Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna in the upcoming trilingual movie, Kubera, directed by Sekhar Kammula. Furthermore, Dhanush is slated to feature in Anand L Rai’s upcoming film, Tere Ishk Mein, where Kriti Sanon takes the lead role as well.
