The final episode of NCIS Season 22 has aired, leaving viewers on edge due to the cliffhanger involving character Gabriel LaRoche, portrayed by Seamus Dever. So, let me shed some light on what transpired for LaRoche in the NCIS Season 22 finale.
In this post, we’ll discuss the final outcome of the character from the last episode of the most recent season.
Is Seamus Dever’s LaRoche a corrupt bureaucrat in NCIS?
While Seamus Dever’s LaRoche appeared to be a corrupt bureaucrat in NCIS, he had his own reasons.
To those unfamiliar with the situation, Agent McGee harbored suspicions about Deputy Director LaRoche for quite some time. He made every effort to expose LaRoche as a spy and even conjured up scenarios where LaRoche was attempting to assassinate him. His doubts intensified when he observed LaRoche departing his office without security, despite being marked by an assassin. Later on, McGee spotted LaRoche firing at someone, but before he could confront him, LaRoche got struck by a vehicle. McGee’s colleagues were unwilling to accept his claims and urged him to cease pursuing LaRoche.
In due course, Kasie uncovered a link between the attack on the party supplies truck and LaRoche’s shooting victim. She learned that Jason Meeks, whose body was subsequently found, was the one shot by LaRoche. Despite the potential risk to his career, McGee persisted in his quest to bring LaRoche to light, eventually hiding him in LaRoche’s own vehicle. However, LaRoche intervened and saved McGee’s life, offering an explanation for his actions.
It was uncovered that LaRoche had been secretly working against Special Agent Nick Torres by undermining his undercover work for the Nexus cartel. To further compromise Torres, LaRoche climbed up the ranks to become the NCIS Deputy Director. In this position, he intentionally acted as a corrupt bureaucrat and mole within the organization, ultimately betraying Torres’ cover with the Nexus.

McGee harbors guilt for doubting LaRoche, who chooses reconciliation with him. In turn, LaRoche declares he’ll relinquish his Deputy Director position. Subsequently, LaRoche intends to disappear from public sight permanently to dodge the Nexus’ aggression. Eventually, they exchange a handshake, and McGee vows that LaRoche’s sacrifices won’t be in vain before he leaves.
