As a seasoned gamer of the NCIS universe, I must say that the introduction of romance in NCIS: Origins has piqued my interest significantly. Having followed the original series for years and witnessing Gibbs’ tumultuous romantic life, it’s fascinating to delve into his past and see how these relationships were formed.
The new television show, titled NCIS: Origins, which is a precursor to the lengthy CBS series NCIS, made its debut on October 14th. This program centers around a younger rendition of Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he embarks on his role as an agent for the Pendleton branch of the Naval Investigative Service (NIS). The producers behind the show, David J. North among them, have suggested that the prequel may also delve into romantic aspects for Young Gibbs.
NCIS: Origins’ David J. North says romance for Young Gibbs ‘is certainly not out of the question’
David J. North, one of the co-showrunners on NCIS: Origins alongside Gina Lucita Monreal, hinted at a potential romantic storyline for Gibbs in a recent interview. Austin Stowell takes on the role of Young Gibbs in this prequel series, while Mark Harmon reappears as the mature incarnation of the character and serves as the narrator of the show.
In this case, we’re dealing with a person who has endured significant hardship, yet there still remains a possibility for romantic connections,” North stated to Deadline.
In NCIS: Origins, the storyline kicks off in 1991, delving into Gibbs’ life as a member of an earlier iteration of NCIS. Given this setting, it’s only fitting that the series will delve into romantic entanglements Gibbs finds himself in during this era. This is similar to the original series, which didn’t shy away from such themes. It’s already been revealed that Gibbs was married four times, three of which ended in divorce. His first wife, Shannon Fielding, and their daughter Kelly, were victims of a drug dealer, an event that significantly influenced Gibbs’ decision to join the NIS. The prequel will also emphasize the profound effect this tragedy had on Gibbs.
Beyond this, he was betrothed to Ellen Wallace, a U.S. Marine Corps Major, and romantically involved with Jenny Shepard, the former director of NCIS. The upcoming sequel may delve deeper into these relationships and others.
NCIS: Origins had a two-episode premiere and will air weekly on Mondays.
