As an ardent fan of the enchanting world of Malayalam cinema, I find myself captivated by the tales of resilience and growth that unfold within its frames. One such tale is the journey of Nayanthara, an actress who has graced our screens with her magnetic presence for years. Recently, she shared a fascinating anecdote from her early days working with the legendary Mohanlal in the film Vismayathumbathu.
Recently, Nayanthara openly expressed some frustration during her collaboration with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal on the film “Vismayathumbathu,” which was directed by Fazil in their shared acting space.
In her reminiscent narration of past events, the actress shared an incident where, during filming, Director Fazil seemed to be growing impatient with Nayanthara. On this particular day, Mohanlal stepped in to assist her, and she remembered him saying something like, “I’m really struggling here; you’re not getting it.
Initially, I must clarify that I don’t naturally think in Malayalam, and film language differs from our everyday speech. Mohanlal sir repeatedly advised me, Nayan, to evoke feelings from within. Hearing this over and over again became quite frustrating for me, the actress explained.
In the thick of the situation, the actress confessed that she responded to the renowned star by expressing, “Sir, I’m utterly confused about my actions. I’m unsure of the lines I should speak. You’re instructing me to stand on this spot, cry at these words, fall in love at those words. What feelings are you asking me to convey? I seem to be devoid of emotions. There appears to be nothing but fear within me.
After hearing her words followed by a sudden reaction, Mohanlal chuckled and suggested she should take some time off.
Additionally, Nayanthara revealed that Director Fazil had expressed his disappointment with her performance initially but later showed faith in her abilities. He told her she couldn’t fail, and after making her wait for two hours, he approached her to encourage her, saying he believed she could deliver a strong performance. The director then asked Nayanthara to take the rest of the day off and return the next day.
The movie “Vismayathumbathu,” released in 2004, was a Malayalam psychological thriller directed by Fazil. In this film, Mohanlal and Nayanthara starred together. Mohanlal portrayed a character with an extraordinary ability to communicate with spirits, a role that showcased his talent as a “sixth sense” possessor. The storyline was adapted from the French novel If Only It Were True.
