Previously crowned Women’s Champion on SmackDown, Naomi, has predominantly excelled in the role of a fan favorite (babyface) throughout her career. She made her debut on RAW alongside Cameron, serving as Brodus Clay’s valets, creating the pair known as The Funkadactyls in 2012.
After making her WWE debut, Naomi has consistently portrayed a character that the audience tends to support (babyface). But in 2015, she switched sides for approximately a year, aligning with Sasha Banks (formerly known as Mercedes Moné) and Tamina Snuka to create Team B.A.D., which put them against the fans.
In the year 2016, WWE transferred Naomi to SmackDown. There, she unveiled a lively persona and an exhilarating stage presence, which came to be known as “The Glow.” This new identity immediately resonated with the audience. The surge in her fan base culminated in her winning the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship at Elimination Chamber 2017, as she defeated Alexa Bliss. Unfortunately, her reign as champion was cut short due to an injury.
Later on, she regained the title at WWE WrestleMania 33 in Orlando. Although The Glow brought her immense success, Naomi has never delved into a more sinister persona. However, the ex-WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion hinted at what fans might witness should she adopt a villainous role.
Naomi says she wouldn’t hold back if she turns heel in WWE
On the topic of HUGE Pop!, Naomi talked about the potential for a change in character in WWE. She expressed her admiration for The Glow’s success but also emphasized that she doesn’t want to get stuck in one place and is ready to adapt if the situation seems appropriate.
Naomi left no room for doubt that, should she decide to proceed, she would wholeheartedly undergo the change. In other words, she emphasized her determination to go through with the metamorphosis if needed.
I have a sense that The Glow or Naomi might need to develop or progress at some point, and I’m ready for that journey. I’m constantly brainstorming ideas, pushing myself to improve, but I don’t want to rush anything. I believe the moment should be well-considered and well-timed.” [Credit: Fightful]
She continued:
To switch things up when I’ve been so deeply ingrained and successful, I’d want the transformation to be significant and impactful. If this means venturing into more edgy territory, I don’t want to shy away from it because the consequences could be substantial – not just for me, but for my fans. However, I still believe I maintain a versatile persona that can adapt anywhere. I’ve built a reputation as a reliable and strong babyface. If I were to deviate from this, we’d need to fully commit. I’d have to become ruthless, dirty, something unprecedented. Every aspect of my character would need to be revamped. I’m ready for it. I’m excited about the prospect.
Following the attack on Jade Cargill, fans have been discussing the possibility that Naomi may have orchestrated the secretive attack. This speculation has resulted in Naomi teaming up with Cargill’s partner, Bianca Belair, to become tag team champions.
