My Hero Academia: You’re Next Tops Japan Box Office

As a gamer who has been following the My Hero Academia franchise for years, I must say that the release of “My Hero Academia: You’re Next” is like a dream come true! I was among the first to watch the film when it premiered in Japan and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The action-packed battles, the emotional depth, and the stunning visuals were absolutely breathtaking.

The upcoming anime superhero movie titled “My Hero Academia: Your Turn” marks the fourth film in the franchise. This announcement was made in August 2023 and it premiered in Japanese cinemas on August 2, 2024, a Friday. In just its first three days of release, the movie topped the Japanese box office charts.

In 488 Japanese movie theaters, along with IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema, My Hero Academia: You’re Next was shown on August 5, 2024. By this date, the film had sold a total of 608,500 tickets, generating approximately 895 million yen or around $6.28 million USD in revenue.

As a seasoned superhero enthusiast, having grown up watching heroes and villains clash in countless cartoons and comic books, I find myself captivated by the ongoing saga of U.A. High School student Deku. His aspirations to become the best hero he can be are truly commendable, and his recent encounter with a villain who mimics his idol has me on the edge of my seat. With a lifetime of experience in following superhero stories, I can’t help but wonder how this confrontation will unfold, and whether Deku and his fellow heroes will emerge victorious.

On October 11, 2024, theaters nationwide in the U.S. will receive the film from TOHO International. To accommodate diverse viewer tastes, both subtitled and dubbed versions of the movie will be made available in these cinemas.

In the narrative of “My Hero Academia: You’re Next,” as stated on its official website, an aging All Might transfers his heroic spirit to Izuku Midoriya (also known as Deku), and the students of U.A. High School. During his second year, a conflict between heroes and villains erupts into widespread chaos. Consequently, Deku finds himself facing the powerful adversary, Tomura Shigaraki.

Luckily, the war concludes as Shigaraki withdraws. But soon after, a new adversary, Dark Might, surfaces, expressing his intention to succeed All Might. Although he claims to fill in for the retired hero, Dark Might reveals conflicting goals and operates an organization known as the “Gorrini Family.” In response, Deku and his allies confront this enemy with the aim of reestablishing peace by vanquishing him.

The worldwide vote for the top hero, #WorldBestHero, has arrived! It’s time for an epic showdown, not just within Japan, but on a global scale, to determine who the greatest hero truly is!

In Studio Bones, Tensai Okamura took charge of directing the movie, with Yōsuke Kuroda penning its script. Yoshihiko Umakoshi was responsible for character design, and Yuki Hayashi handled the music composition. The main characters in this film include Daiki Yamashita as Deku, Nobuhiko Okamoto portraying Bakugo, and Yuki Kaji as Shōto Todoroki. Notably, Kenta Miyake plays the role of the formidable villain, Dark Might.

As a passionate fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the moment when Kohei Horikoshi would finally put the finishing touches on his masterpiece, “My Hero Academia” manga series. On Monday, August 5, 2024, that day finally arrived with chapter 430. The journey of Izuku Midoriya and his friends has been nothing short of extraordinary, inspiring not just a long-running anime adaptation, but also four films, three spin-off mangas, and four video games. Each one added its own unique chapter to the already rich legacy of “My Hero Academia.” It’s been an incredible ride, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this amazing universe.
