As a seasoned gamer of wrestling lore, I must say that the resurgence of The Hurt Business as The Hurt Syndicate in AEW has me more excited than a kid on Christmas morning with a new WWE video game. The trio’s departure from WWE and subsequent reforming in Tony Khan’s promotion feels like an epic quest, one that I’ve been waiting for since their original disbandment.
In AEW, MVP transformed The Hurt Business into The Hurt Syndicate after leaving WWE. This group includes past WWE stars like MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin.
In August, both MVP and Bobby Lashley left WWE when their contracts ended, while Shelton Benjamin was let go in 2023. There’s been talk that the three of them might join forces again as The Hurt Business in AEW, since they’re gearing up to make their debut in Tony Khan’s promotion.
Last month at WrestleDream, both MVP and Shelton Benjamin had their first appearance in AEW. The appearance by MVP stirred speculation about a potential new partnership when he passed a business card to Swerve Strickland, but Strickland declined the proposal.
Following an altercation with Strickland, MVP recruited Bobby Lashley. This new addition made his debut on AEW Dynamite Fight Night several weeks later. Subsequently, the trio consisting of MVP, Lashley, and others attacked both Strickland and Prince Nana, thereby establishing The Hurt Syndicate within AEW.
After the recent attack, Bobby Lashley and Swerve Strickland are set to square off at AEW Full Gear. In the build-up to their showdown, MVP has shed light on why The Hurt Business transformed into The Hurt Syndicate within AEW, as well as discussing the factors that led to issues with the group in WWE.
MVP discusses WWE’s handling of The Hurt Business & AEW’s new chapter
The Hurt Syndicate recently appeared on AEW Close with Renee Paquette, where MVP talked about the reforming of The Hurt Syndicate. He also opened up about how the faction gained organic popularity but ended in WWE too soon.
MVP stated, “Regrettably, it concluded sooner than anticipated. We believed it necessary to provide our tale with a fitting conclusion. Thankfully, Tony Khan granted us the opportunity to move our organization here.
Lashley shared that fans have been persistently requesting a reunion, often expressing their desire in comments on his posts for The Hurt Business’s comeback. In discussing fan enthusiasm, he explained, “They’ve always yearned to see us reunite because our bond was genuine. We spent time together, we worked out together…this presents the ideal chance for us to do it again.
Originating in 2020 amidst the pandemic, The Hurt Business swiftly rose to prominence. Yet, unfortunately, the collective was dismantled in the following year. In spite of various reappearances within WWE, the fan base never quite embraced them as they did initially. Now, as the members of The Hurt Business join AEW, it’s intriguing to anticipate how Tony Khan will develop this group going forward.
