As a devoted fan who has grown up with Disney’s “The Lion King” franchise, I am beyond thrilled at the prospect of a Timon and Pumbaa spin-off featuring Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen. Their chemistry in the 2019 remake was electrifying, and their voices brought a fresh, hilarious twist to these beloved characters.
Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen lent their voices to Timon and Pumbaa respectively in the 2019 remake of The Lion King and the upcoming 2024 film Mufasa: The Lion King. Similar to how Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella voiced these characters in the 1994 animated movie, the newer versions have garnered a lot of fan love. There’s a growing clamor for a spin-off focusing on these characters, and in a recent interview, Eichner expressed his support for such a film idea.
Mufasa: The Lion King’s Billy Eichner on what’s needed for a Timon and Pumbaa movie
In a recent chat, Billy Eichner hinted that he and Rogen are eager to move forward with a potential Timon and Pumbaa spin-off, and he even pondered over possible plot ideas for this hypothetical venture.
Many are inquiring about it. Seth and I are geared up and eager to proceed. We just need more folks to create a buzz around the possibility of a Timon and Pumbaa film,” Eichner shared with Dexerto, followed by a humorous remark, “I strongly believe that we should all keep chattering about this topic consistently.
The actor from Difficult People expressed an idea about a future-set prequel, stating it could be “entertaining.” He elaborated, “I believe a road trip film would be amusing, featuring them embarking on an adventure, encountering new individuals, and possibly revisiting familiar characters. It could be a lively, vibrant comedy.
Eichner pointed out that “The Lion King” is both powerful and emotional, hinting that any potential Timon and Pumbaa spin-off should delve into their bond and potentially offer a lot of humor and quick wit.
As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to share that the star of Bros himself expressed his desire for Lin-Manuel Miranda to rejoin the team for the spin-off. In a playful mood, he and Rogen confessed they were “fuming” over the fact that Miranda hadn’t penned any tunes for them in The Lion King as Mufasa.
Significantly, Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella reprised their roles from the initial film in numerous sequels and the Timon & Pumbaa animated series. Given this pattern, it’s likely that Disney could choose to develop a spin-off featuring Timon and Pumbaa, potentially starring Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen.
