Internet sensation known as MrBeast has expressed his intent to purchase TikTok, given that its potential ban in the United States seems imminent. The brief video-sharing app finds itself on the brink of a nationwide prohibition due to a recently enacted law by President Joe Biden.
Here is what the popular YouTuber stated about his plans regarding the social media platform.
MrBeast posts on X (Twitter) that he wants to buy TikTok
Discussion about a potential ban on TikTok is dominating online conversations. Notably, popular YouTube figure and internet sensation, MrBeast, has publicly stated his intent to purchase the app.
In a recent update on X, the YouTuber stated, “Alright, I’ll take over TikTok to keep it from being forbidden.” The video-sharing app TikTok is facing a potential ban on January 19, 2025, following a new law enacted by the Biden administration. This law was signed into action by President Biden in April 2024 and requires TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to relinquish ownership of the platform to an American entity to prevent it from being banned.
The Senate has suggested in proposed legislation that user data gathered by the platform could potentially be utilized by China for unscrupulous activities such as extortion and spying, according to court documents from the Justice Department. Consequently, the Senate is advocating for TikTok to either change ownership to an American entity or face a ban within the country. If this application were indeed banned in the U.S., around 170 million users would no longer be able to access it. A hearing on this issue was recently held at the Supreme Court on January 10th.
So, if MrBeast indeed takes control of TikTok, there might be no ban enforced on the app. Additionally, it’s been speculated that tech entrepreneur Elon Musk could potentially acquire the platform as well. However, TikTok has publicly dismissed this speculation in an official statement.
