MrBeast meets T-Series: Rivals turn allies?

As a long-time YouTube enthusiast who has witnessed the rise and fall of various creators, I must say that the ongoing battle between MrBeast and T-Series for the most subscribers is one of the most intriguing spectacles in the platform’s history.

Could it be that the competition for the highest number of subscribers between the American content creator, MrBeast, and the Indian music and film label, T-Series, is nearing its conclusion?

MrBeast has just surpassed 331 million subscribers, making him the global leader in this field. However, it might be incorrect to think that the competition has come to an end.

However, it wouldn’t be MrBeast if he didn’t use this rivalry for some publicity.

In a recent YouTube Short titled “I Got T-Series to Subscribe to Me,” Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson travels to India to meet his rival.

Company vs. Influencer?

When PewDiePie was at the peak of his YouTube success, petty rivalries and playful jabs on social media were a common occurrence.

Initially, the contrast appears unusual: an Indian music and film label versus an exceptionally successful online content creator. On the surface, it does not appear equitable.

Rather than creating their own content, as Donaldson and PewDiePie did with self-produced material, the Indian competitor primarily showcases pre-existing content from musicians and filmmakers on their T-Series channel.

This direct comparison is flawed: on one side, you have creative, original productions, and on the other, professional uploads of existing works by Indian artists.

It’s unclear if T-Series solely deserves all the success it claims, given that even though MrBeast works with a substantial team, the magnitude of their operations is significantly different.

T-Series and MrBeast subscribe to each other

On December 9th, a brief encounter took place between MrBeast and Bhushan Kumar, the head honcho at T-Series, in India. As a result, they mutually agreed to subscribe to each other’s channels.

Kumar makes the first move, prompting MrBeast to joke:

“It looks like my phone died”

But of course, he’s prepared and quickly pulls out his phone to subscribe to T-Series as well.

“After all the years the sub race is over”

says Donaldson at the end of the video, and they shake hands.

As a passionate viewer, I must say the vibe in that moment felt less like rivalry and more like camaraderie. Remarkably, the video amassed an astounding 12 million views and received over a million thumbs up – quite the overwhelmingly positive reaction!

Community reaction

The unexpected partnership left the YouTube audience quite astonished, as evidenced by comments with more than 50,000 likes.

2021, indeed, seems to be the year of surprising partnerships… or alternatively, we’ve seen a collaboration between T-Series and MrBeast that came before the anticipated release of GTA 6.

Some view this action as a reversal of loyalty towards his friend and collaborator, PewDiePie, considering that MrBeast had previously backed him during the 2022 Super Bowl campaign to overtake T-Series and claim the title of the most-subscribed YouTube channel.

However, following the instances where PewDiePie was surpassed initially by T-Series and later by MrBeast, it appears that MrBeast places less emphasis on public approval.

Could this shift be due to PewDiePie’s declining relevance?

Perfect timing

This important gathering with T-Series happens to be perfectly timed for MrBeast. His latest production, titled “Beast Games“, is set to debut on December 18, 2024, and can only be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

Could a prompt meeting with T-Series serve as an effective strategy for garnering interest from potential Indian viewers, given its merit?
