As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must admit that “Mr & Mrs Mahi” was a refreshing change from the usual action-packed, high-octane video games I’m accustomed to. The film’s unique blend of sports drama and personal growth resonated deeply with me, as it mirrored some of my own life experiences.


I was absolutely captivated by the recent release of “Mr & Mrs Mahi” featuring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor. In this sports drama, I found myself cheering for the couple’s passion for cricket. Although Mahendra, aka Mahi, felt disheartened about his prospects in the national team, he wholeheartedly supported his gifted wife, Mahima, aka Mahi, in her pursuit of her dreams. Directed by Sharan Sharma, this heartwarming story hit theaters on May 31 and is now available for streaming on Netflix.

Why does Mahendra decide to coach Mahima?

Mahendra Agrawal, or Mahi as he’s known, is an aspiring cricketer who misses out on being chosen for Rajasthan’s state team. Instead, his father makes him work at their local sports equipment shop. After dedicating numerous years to the business, Mahi still doesn’t receive the recognition and appreciation from his father that he desires. Additionally, he feels jealous of his brother’s success as a TV actor.

Simultaneously, Mahendra’s family gathers with Mahima’s for the purpose of an arranged marriage between the two. Mahima, also known as Mahi, is a gifted doctor and an avid cricket lover. Upon their union, Mahendra discovers Mahima’s impressive cricket abilities. She motivates him to rekindle his passion for cricket, but due to his subpar performance, he is suggested to take on the role of a coach instead.

Eager for recognition, Mahendra applies for a cricket coaching position but is unsuccessful. Instead, he persuades Mahima to abandon her medical career and chase her dream of becoming a cricketer. With his encouragement, Mahendra becomes an enthusiastic coach and hones Mahima’s abilities. Their determination pays off when Mahima earns a spot on the state cricket team. The amusing tale of Mahendra and Mahima takes an unexpected turn as Mahima surpasses her husband and coach in skill.

Does Mahima make it to Indian Women’s National Cricket Team?

Mahendra and Mahima’s relationship starts to deteriorate when Mahendra becomes jealous that his wife is gaining more recognition than him. He feels that his dedication as a coach hasn’t brought him the limelight he desires. His growing envy drives a wedge between them, leading him to disapprove of Mahima’s ambitions in cricket. Mahendra attempts various methods to boost his popularity but is unsuccessful. Discovering that he had used Mahima as a stepping stone for his own success leaves Mahima feeling bitter and struggling to concentrate on her game.

After their lives are devastated, Mahendra comes to the realization of his error following a heartfelt conversation with his mother. Eager to help Mahima in her time of need and mend their relationship, Mahendra travels to support her team at their tournament. However, Mahima remains unwilling to reconcile. On the day of the championship match, Mahima’s team experiences difficulty competing against their formidable opponents. With the outcome resting on her shoulders, Mahendra encourages her to give it her all. Inspired by his words, Mahima rises to the challenge and emerges victorious. As the tournament concludes, Mahima ultimately forgives Mahendra when he urges her to follow her heart rather than the advice of others.
