Emphasizing uniqueness over conventional quality or narrative, we aim for the bizarre and unconventional.
In this film titled “The Surfer“, Nicolas Cage plays the protagonist, also known as “The Surfer”. Set along the beautiful Australian coastline, the story unfolds as he prepares to surf with his son. However, their peaceful day is disrupted by a band of unsavory local surfers. The narrative then progresses with incidents involving theft, harassment, and brutal violence, which ultimately reduce “The Surfer” to a disheveled, homeless-like appearance.
The unusual aspect of this movie lies in the fact that The Surfer seemingly spends most of it idling in a parking lot, engrossed in his phone calls as he strives to secure funding for a coastal house and maintain his job, all while slipping deeper into a cycle of homelessness and despair over the course of two hours. This unfolds in a way that’s tough to bear, with much of the narrative appearing illogical or unclear.
