Movie Review: Last Breath

Last Breath” – The Perilous Profession of Life-Risking Individuals

In essence, this movie narrates the extraordinary tales of individuals who dare to confront danger for their livelihood. This gripping account revolves around three courageous men who plunge into the depths of the ocean to perform hazardous repairs on gasoline pipes. These brave souls are winched down to the ocean floor in a massive capsule suspended from a colossal vessel at the start of the film, with a stark warning that their profession is one of the world’s most perilous.

After watching this thrilling movie, it seems almost unimaginable that anyone could possess the audacity or fortitude to undertake such a risky job given the alarmingly high probability of mortality.

The movie “Last Breath” features Woody Harrelson as Duncan Allock, a key diver, Simu Liu as Dave Yuasa, and Finn Cole as Chris Lemons, who becomes trapped at the ocean’s depths in this tale. The film was created based on real events, highlighting the miracles that unfolded when the diving vessel’s crew initially found and later tried to rescue Chris Lemons.

However, the search for Lemons and bringing him back aboard the ship was often sluggish and less engaging due to its slow pace. I found it intriguing that under such life-threatening circumstances, the team would opt to dive to the ocean floor during the night, amidst a storm. The story revealed that the submersible container experienced turbulent movements due to the storm while they were diving, which seemed illogical given the potential risks and lack of better conditions.

What struck me was also the fact that accomplished actors like Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu would accept roles under such challenging circumstances and in such confined spaces, not ideal for those with even a hint of claustrophobia.
