The recently released film “A Working Man” bears striking resemblances to Liam Neeson’s 2008 hit “Taken”. The narrative structure of both movies is quite alike, with one protagonist, in this instance Jason Statham as Levon Cade, confronting multiple criminal organizations. Unlike Taken where the target was a single kidnapper, here we have three separate gangs, dishonest law enforcement, and Carla, played by Noemi Gonzalez, who’s been abducted into a human trafficking ring. The climax of “A Working Man” mirrors that of Taken, as Levon rescues Carla in an intense finale, echoing the ending of Taken.
In this film, while efforts have been made to distinguish it from Taken by featuring Levon Cade as an employee for a construction firm trying to rescue his employer’s kidnapped daughter, persistent similarities to Taken are hard to ignore over the course of the two-hour runtime.
