Move Over BTS: Netflix’s Fictional “Saja Boys” Dominate US Spotify Charts

Sony Animation’s “K-Pop Demon Hunter” has become an incredible success tale. This film by Maggie Kang, featuring a unique K-Pop group that slays demons, has been praised by both critics and audiences alike and reached No.1 on Netflix in 26 different countries. Now, even the movie’s antagonists, the demon boy band known as “Saja Boys,” have made their own mark with a record to show for it.

The tune titled “Your Idol” by the imaginary K-Pop boy band became incredibly famous, making them the second highest charting male group in US Spotify history. Remarkably, they even surpassed the former record holder, BTS, who ranked third with their 2020 hit single “Dynamite“.

It’s all the more astonishing given that BTS recently got back together following their military service. One could assume that their grand return would generate a lot of buzz and eclipse the popularity of the fictional boy band, but it speaks volumes about the excellence of the film and the music.

The Movie’s Siren Song

In the film, not only does the K-Pop group Huntr/x captivate vast audiences with their popular tunes, but they also safeguard the human realm from demonic forces. To overthrow Huntr/x and breach their protective veil, demons dispatch their wicked K-Pop counterpart, Saja Boys. Rising to stardom swiftly, the Saja Boys conceal their malicious scheme from unsuspecting humans.

This part of the movie reaches its peak with the track “Your Idol,” a song focusing on the themes of obsession and worship. Instead of criticizing this phenomenon, the Saja Boys encourage their fans to become obsessed, using this as a means to exert control over them. At times, the song takes on an eerie, cathedral-like quality, and incorporates Latin elements, reinforcing the band’s dark, demonic image.

The melody isn’t merely catchy; its dark, villainous undertone morphs it into a hauntingly seductive K-Pop track that stands out. It’s no surprise that many listeners have been drawn to this unique piece of music. Pairing the legendary siren myth with a K-Pop band seems like a celestial union of sound and story.

Possible Collab In The Future?

It appears that BTS, just like many others, have developed a fondness for the film. During their live reunion, Kim Namjoon (the leader of BTS) spontaneously sang a tune from the movie, specifically “Soda Pop” by Saja Boys. Interestingly enough, I’ve found myself humming this catchy song since watching the movie. Even more excitingly, Maggie Kang, the director of the film, expressed her desire for a collaboration between Saja Boys and BTS on Twitter.

Hey Army, how about a collab with Saja Boys? The Pride is ready @bts_bighit

Time will determine if the excitement surrounding the animated K-Pop group, Saja Boys, will endure or fade away. BTS is currently aiming to set new records with their upcoming album, slated for early 2026 release. For now, the visually captivating melodies of the Saja Boys have managed to draw a considerable number of fans.
