What happens in the Mortal Kombat 2 trailer?

The trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 showcases footage of Karl Urban playing the role of Johnny Cage, a character who debuted in the first Mortal Kombat game back in 1992. Newcomers to the cast include Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and CJ Bloomfield as Baraka.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that Simon McQuoid, who made his directorial debut with the initial Mortal Kombat film, is back at the helm for the sequel. This upcoming movie marks the fourth installment in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Prior to the 2021 reboot, there were two other movies: the original 1995 Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat Annihilation from 1997. I can hardly wait to see what he brings to this iconic series!

Jeremy Slater, the writer, shared with ComicBook that the development of Mortal Kombat II has been completed for some time. They have been patiently awaiting the ideal release date and the optimal timing for its launch.

He expressed, “I’ve attended those test screenings brimming with Mortal Kombat enthusiasts, and their reactions mirrored mine from Avengers: Endgame. They were cheering and leaping from their seats. All the jokes are hitting the mark, and they can’t get enough of it. It’s one of the most thrilling moments I’ve ever experienced in this line of work. That’s why we dive into this industry.

On October 24, 2025, Mortal Kombat II is set to hit the big screens across U.S. cinemas, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures.
