Fitness enthusiast Martyn Ford has been announced as the new star of the forthcoming “Mortal Kombat 2,” taking on the iconic character of Shao Khan – a role that he himself described as a long-cherished dream realized.
What did Martyn Ford say about his Mortal Kombat II role?
In a conversation with ComingSoon, Ford (recently seen in the Amazon Prime Video series House of David) shared that he’s found himself in prominent roles, describing it as “one opportunity leads to another, like one dream unfolds and another takes its place.” He also mentioned his role as Shao Khan briefly.
Over the past few years, Ford has been fortunate enough to portray a variety of significant characters. One thing leads to another, and one dream role follows another. Recently, he’s played Flamma, a historical gladiator, considered the best of all time. Then, he took on Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat II, and most recently, he embodied Goliath. I’m not sure where I’ll go next in terms of villainous roles, but I think I’ve tackled three of the greatest bad guys ever, with Goliath being the perfect finishing touch. It’s truly a privilege to have been given the chance to play him.
Though he didn’t delve deeply into discussing Shao Khan, he did mention his opportunity to take on a larger part within House of David, which he has long desired.
Ford found it fantastic to go beyond just a fight scene when working alongside Goliath, as one issue with constantly portraying the villain is knowing the outcome in advance. Typically, the good guy prevails in most productions. Of course, this is an age-old narrative. It’s not rocket science. However, having the chance to present something beforehand was thrilling for me. Playing that character was a delight. To be honest, it’s my favorite role so far. Not only were the people I worked with exceptional, but the opportunity to play such a character was fantastic. I can’t find enough good words to express how much I enjoyed the experience.
In the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2, fans can expect a return of Hiroyuki Sanada portraying Scorpion, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada reprising his role as both Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang playing the part of Kung Lao. Additionally, new characters will be introduced including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Martyn Ford portraying Emperor Shao Kahn, Damon Herriman as Netherrealm demon Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam taking on the role of Edenian King Jerrod, and Ana Thu Nguyen assuming the role of Queen Sindel.
