More Xbox exclusives are coming to PS5 after Microsoft pressure, says Phil Spencer

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the latest news about Xbox exclusives coming to PlayStation 5 has left me scratching my head. I remember when console wars were about bragging rights and having the coolest graphics; now it seems like we’re all just sharing our games!

In simpler terms, Xbox leader Phil Spencer is making it clear to fans that they can expect more exclusive Xbox games to appear on the PlayStation 5 and other gaming platforms as well. This follows the news about Indiana Jones and The Great Circle being released on PS5, and Spencer has hinted that similar Xbox games will also be available on Sony’s consoles in the future.

Xbox in a changing industry

Spencer clarified that since the gaming industry is evolving rapidly, it’s highly likely that an increasing number of Xbox games will eventually appear on PlayStation 5. Although Xbox players might get new games initially and have access to them through Game Pass, those titles will become available on Sony’s platform soon thereafter.

Speaking at Gamescom, Spencer mentioned that back in spring, we introduced a total of four games – two for the Nintendo Switch and four for PlayStation. He emphasized that we were committed to learning, and during the Showcase, he hinted that from our learnings, we would be doing more.

Spencer clarifies that the internal expectations at Microsoft for Xbox are quite steep. Given their series of acquisitions such as Bethesda and Activision, Xbox is now under close observation to generate substantial profits. Consequently, a larger number of Xbox games, excluding main franchises like Gears, Halo, and Forza, may become accessible on PS5 and other platforms in the future.

Within Microsoft, the expectations for our performance are exceptionally high, as reflected by Spencer’s statement. He noted that this is due to the extraordinary level of backing and resources we receive from the company, enabling us to achieve remarkable feats.

In simpler terms, Phil Spencer stated that they have gained valuable insights from the initial four games, their business on Xbox has more players than ever before, and the gaming industry as a whole is facing significant challenges which will inevitably lead to changes for everyone involved.

Spencer clarified that Xbox enthusiasts should prepare for an adjustment. With intense competition within the industry and pressure from Microsoft, this alteration is necessary.

Xbox Exclusives don’t equal player numbers

Despite the unfortunate state of Xbox exclusives compared to PS5, Phil Spencer claims that Xbox player numbers are higher than ever. Across PC, console and Xbox Cloud Gaming, the gaming brand is technically bigger than ever.

To stay updated on the latest Xbox news, don’t forget to look for the upcoming Genshin Impact launch date or the new games coming to Game Pass in August 2024.
