Moon Studio, creators of Ori and the Blind Forest, recently declared they’ve regained full independence. Earlier, they had been collaborating with Private Division, Take-Two Interactive’s indie publishing branch, on their upcoming game No Rest For the Wicked. However, a sale of Private Division left Moon Studio and their project in an uncertain position. Now, they have shared exciting news that they’ve reacquired the rights for No Rest For the Wicked and are planning to release it independently.
In a recent developer blog post, Moon Studios announced their newfound autonomy and provided insights into their latest project, as well as the current status of the studio. The video features discussions led by Thomas Mahler and Gennadiy Korol.
As I’m the one working on No Rest For the Wicked, I can tell you that our game is published by Private Division – a division of Take-Two Interactive.
It came as a surprise when Take-Two announced their intention to offload the Private Division, but upon further thought, we recognized a chance for something,” Mahler explained.
Mahler and Gennadiy clarified that they repurchased the publishing rights for No Rest For the Wicked from Take-Two Interactive. Most of the other games under Private Division were sold to an unnamed buyer, but this didn’t include No Rest For the Wicked, which was still set for publication despite the change in ownership. However, with Private Division no longer involved, it seems that Moon Studios is now managing the game’s destiny independently.
It appears that No Rest For The Wicked, a Souls-like game from Moon Studio, seems intriguing as a departure from their previous work on the Ori series. The developers have been sharing more insights about the game’s progress during early access. However, it’s essential to remember that Moon Studio is solely in charge of its future developments. As we eagerly anticipate its final outcome, keep an eye on the Moon Studios topic for updates.
