Monster Hunter Wilds won't gender lock armor sets

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Monster Hunter under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of liberation and excitement at this latest announcement from Capcom. For years, I’ve found myself bound by the constraints of gender-locked armor sets, yearning for that elusive female version of the Velocidrome Alpha set or the male equivalent of the Grimclaw armour.

2024 at Gamescom, Capcom unveiled a long-awaited livestream for Monster Hunter Wilds, revealing exciting updates, and the most captivating disclosure was about breaking down gender barriers in armor sets! This means that for the first time ever in the series, players like myself have the freedom to don male or female armor pieces, or even mix and match them as we craft our unique cosmetic styles. It’s a brand-new era of customization, allowing us to express ourselves more authentically within the game!

During the entire Monster Hunter Wilds livestream at Gamescom 2024 this week, it was shown that a female hunter could wear armor pieces typically found in male gear. Similarly, males will be able to don female armor sets or combine them with male items. This feature allows for customization and diversity in character appearances.

In the Monster Hunter series, this modification isn’t entirely out of the blue, but it marks a significant shift. For years, the appearance of your character in Monster Hunter World and Rise was tied to its assigned gender. However, with this update, players will now have greater freedom to customize their characters, allowing them to choose from various options based on style or personal preference rather than gender-specific limitations. In other words, everyone can rock the coolest armor sets, regardless of their character’s gender!

At present, Monster Hunter Wilds is persistently aiming for a launch by early 2025. However, updates are rapidly pouring in, including the latest addition – the fearsome Apex predator known as Rey Dau. Keep an eye out here at Shacknews for further details as they surface.
