Mohanlal’s Empuraan producer Antony Perumbavoor fires back at Suresh Kumar; says a strike will not be beneficial in any way

2025’s highly anticipated political action movie, Empuraan starring Mohanlal, has been generating buzz for an unexpected reason. This was after Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) Vice President, Suresh Kumar, disclosed that the film’s production cost has soared beyond 140 crores, excluding the actors’ salaries.

During a press conference, Suresh Kumar announced that he believes the Malayalam Film Industry will need to close down starting from June 1st, due to actors requesting excessively high pay rates. Additionally, he urged for the removal of GST and entertainment taxes from the industry as well.

At a press gathering, Suresh Kumar expressed his viewpoint that the Malayalam Film Industry may have to halt operations starting June 1st due to actors’ excessive salary demands. Moreover, he advocated for eliminating GST and entertainment taxes from the industry.)

Recently, Antony Perumbavoor, producer of the movie starring Mohanlal, posted on social media in reaction to Suresh Kumar’s public announcements. Perumbavoor stated that he chose to make his response public due to the nature of his colleague’s previous statements which were also shared publicly.

In my recent post, I challenged Suresh Kumar’s right to declare a closure, as it seemed that the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) hadn’t reached a unanimous decision on this matter. Furthermore, I emphasized that such a shutdown could potentially impact the livelihood of countless individuals working within our film industry, and indirectly, thousands of families who depend on it.

Additionally, Antony Perumbavoor expressed concern in a forceful statement, pointing out that he found it puzzling for Suresh Kumar to discuss the budget of his upcoming film Empuraan, given that the project is still undergoing post-production. The producer also implied doubt about Suresh Kumar’s motives, suggesting that perhaps his press meet was intended to boost the industry or alternatively, to bring shame upon it.

In simpler terms, Antony Perumbavoor noted that, should there be a unanimous agreement within the KFPA, President Anto Joseph would be the one to formally announce the decision in public.
