Mohanlal starrer Thudarum faces plagiarism accusation by filmmaker: ‘It’s made by stealing’

At the start of this year, Mohanlal’s movie “Thudarum” kicked off impressively. This crime thriller was a massive hit at the box office and garnered critical praise for various aspects. However, unfortunately, the film has found itself back in headlines, but this time due to unfavorable circumstances.

Thudarum faces plagiarism accusation by filmmaker

Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan publicly accused the creators of Thudarum on social media, claiming they plagiarized the screenplay for their film from his own unproduced project, Theeyattam, featuring Mohanlal and Shobana.

He mentioned that although he penned the screenplay back in 2020, the creators of Thudarum seem to have mimicked its basic structure, yet failed to capture the essence or main idea of his original work.

According to him, he watched the film “Thudarum”. He believes that they based it on his screenplay “Theeyattam”, which he wrote in 2020. However, he says that the main idea or heart of the story remains intact; either because they didn’t have the ability to grasp its core meaning, or because they intentionally steered clear of it when rewriting it to make it untraceable.

Filmmaker accuses Mohanlal starrer of stealing even a dialogue from his screenplay

Besides this, as Sanal Kumar continued in his social media post, he claimed that despite trying to secretly adapt another’s screenplay, the creators of the Mohanlal film failed to delete a vital line that originally belonged to Sanal’s script.

In simpler terms, he expressed that a significant conversation from his screenplay titled ‘Konnaal paapam thinnaal theerum’ was included in the movie unnecessarily. Expert thieves who are adept at stealing without being detected may still be influenced by certain whims, and this dialogue seemed to me like an oversight or mistake in the script.

During its time in theaters, this movie brought in an astounding sum of over 200 million Indian rupees globally, roughly estimated.

I eagerly awaited the release of the movie on Jio Hotstar, and it did not disappoint! Once more, the audience responded positively to it.
