Mohanlal reflects on his decades-long camaraderie with Mammootty and how it inspired a culture of friendship among new-generation stars

More recently, Mohanlal appeared at a press conference following the release of the teaser for his highly anticipated film L2: Empuraan. During his interaction with journalists, he was questioned about his enduring friendship with Mammootty and if they helped cultivate such camaraderie within Malayalam cinema.

We maintain constant communication, and there’s an unspoken understanding among us that guides our actions, rather than any formal rules dictating our interactions. The actor was questioned about a past incident related to Director Shaji Kailas’ comments before the re-release of the film “Valyettan”. In a press conference, the seasoned director disclosed that he directed the movie featuring Mammootty as a present to the superstar for agreeing to play a minor role in “Narasimham”, which starred Mohanlal.

In the year 2000’s movie, Mohanlal starred as the main character, while Mammootty made a special appearance as a lawyer. One memorable moment from this film remains popular among both fans and pop culture aficionados to this day.

In the near future, some prominent actors will be teaming up for a new movie called MMMN, which is being helmed by director Mahesh Narayanan. This upcoming project features Mammootty in a significant part.

In this movie, Mohanlal takes on an extended guest appearance, portraying a significant character within the plot. Previously, he worked alongside him in a film that hit theaters back in 2008. Additionally, there are whispers that this production will be a spy-themed story, with Fahadh Faasil and Kunchacko Boban set to appear in supporting roles. It’s also anticipated that Nayanthara might join the cast as well.

Moving onto Mohanlal’s upcoming projects, he will star in the movie L2: Empuraan, scheduled for release on March 27, 2025. This film, helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is the second part of a trilogy that started back in 2019, known as the Lucifer series.

Besides Mohanlal, this movie features a star-studded cast that includes Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, among others, who are all returning to their characters from the initial film.
